The Northern Marianas government has recorded a budget surplus of $1.06 million US dollars in the latest financial quarter - an improvement from the quarterly average deficit of $6.45 million in the 2011 fiscal year.
Government expenditures and obligations reached just over $25 million from October to December last year.
The surplus was due mostly to the government's actual or operational expenses being much less than what it was allotted.
The government has a $102 million dollar budget for 2012.
