The Fiji interim government has extended the state of natural disaster for a further 10 days.

FBC News says the extension is due to the extensive damage and flooding in the western division.

It says according to a statement, the extension is to facilitate relief and assistance work.

It also says this will also allow for proper damage assessment to identify immediate needs.

The state of natural disaster was first declared on January 25th for 15 days.
