Tonga minister to deal with Ha'apai road problems

12:27 pm on 14 February 2012

Tonga's Transport Minister is planning to visit Ha'apai this week to look at an urgent roading project.

Samiu Vaipulu says a section of Holopeka Road is a priority because it has badly eroded.

He says an engineer sent over to assess the road's condition has sent pictures back and costings have been done.

Mr Vaipulu says he's had to change his flight because of Cyclone Jasmine but local concerns about the road on Lifuka are being addressed.

"I'll probably be going Friday and arrange the funding so we can get it fixed within a week or two from now."

Samiu Vaipulu says the delay has been because of a lack of money for road maintenance in their budgets, until this financial year.
