Further cuts are expected in capital improvement project funding for the Northern Marianas in the US President's proposed $3.8-trillion budget for the 2013 fiscal year.

Barack Obama's proposed $575 million budget request to support US insular areas gives $8.7 million to the CNMI for capital improvement projects, a reduction of about $800,000 or 8.4 percent from 2012.

Annual capital improvement project funding for the CNMI has been on a steady decline in the past few years.

American Samoa is scheduled to receive $9.9 million for its capital improvement funding in the 2013 fiscal year, Guam will get $6.1 million and the US Virgin Islands $2.9 million.
