A strategic review of the Secretariat of the Pacific Community is not expected to result in an overhaul of the 65-year-old organisation.
The director general Dr Jimmie Rodgers says an independent, external review team of seven led by a former regional vice president of the World Bank will present its recommendations in May.
He says the core focus of the 22-member regional organisation to provide technical advice, assistance, research and training has remained the same since it was established in 1947.
But Dr Rodgers says the three-month review is the first opportunity, following the absorption of two other regional organisations, to look at what the SPC does and how it works.
"Are the things that we're doing now as a collective still the priority of members, what areas should be focus on, how should they be financed, how do we measure results, what is the governance structure and mechanism through which it can be delivered and measured and what are the country ownership responsibilities for the organisation."
Dr Jimmie Rodgers says the review's outcome will provide the SPC with a direction for the next 50 years.
