Sport: Gold Coast sack coach following captaincy dispute

Gold Coast United have officially sacked football coach Miron Bleiberg after he fell out with the A-League club following the appointment of 17-year-old Mitch Cooper as captain.

Bleiberg had been suspended by the club's billionaire owner Clive Palmer for last Friday night's clash with Melbourne Heart, after criticising the decision to appoint Vanuatu-born Cooper as the team's stand-in skipper.

Cooper was born in Vanuatu and is an Australian Under 17 representative.
