Sport: Tonga desperate for first win PRC competition

8:26 am on 3 March 2012

Tonga A are still searching for their first win in the Pacific Rugby Cup this season heading into tomorrow's final match of the Australia leg in Canberra.

The Tongans backed up an opening round loss with a 23-8 loss to Queensland A in Brisbane on Thursday.

Coach Isitolo Maka says the team were extremely disappointing and guilty of playing as individuals.

He says ahead of a tough fortnight in New Zealand it's crucial to perform well against the Brumby Runners.

"We want to win one here before we left Australia. We've got a couple of players here who don't play on Sunday - I think everyone had a play in our 30 man squad. I just keep on telling them the main thing is getting everyone a run - it doesn't matter what the result but for the future of Tongan rugby these young players need to experience this tournament playing against the bigger boys."
