Charged Fiji unionist Urai denied travel permit

7:20 pm on 6 March 2012

Fiji trade unionist Daniel Urai has been denied permission to travel overseas while on bail.

Mr Urai is charged with urging political violence and inciting antagonism against the interim government.

Mr Urai is the President of the Fiji Trades Union Congress and wants to travel to Britain and Switzerland.

Fiji Village reports the ruling on the application for bail variation to travel overseas has been refused.

The court ruled that Mr Urai's curfew hours from 8pm to 6am be suspended and if he wants to travel around the island, the court has given him 24 hours to advise the DPP's office or the court officer.

The case will be called again on May the 17th in Suva.
