Fiji NLTB case adjourned until May

4:49 pm on 8 March 2012

Three former high profile officials at Fiji's Native Land Trust Board will reappear at the Suva High Court in May on charges of fraud and abuse of office.

The former chairman Laisenia Qarase, who is also the ousted Prime Minister, a former general manager Kalivati Bakani and a former director Keni Dakuidreketi, appeared in court this morning.

The three are charged with four counts of fraudulent convergence and three counts of abuse of office.

Fiji Live reports that defence counsel told the court they need five weeks to review all documents.

One of the defence lawyers, Barbara Malimali, told the court that time should not be wasted by amending the charges against the trio and the prosecution should get its act together.

The case has been adjourned to May 3rd.
