Fiji taxi boss resigns following backlash to short shirts comment

The general secretary of the Fiji Taxi Association has resigned following an outcry over comments he made that the wearing of short skirts could result in harassment by taxi drivers.

Rishi Ram said that the Association was telling female passengers how to dress up and that it was human nature that taxi drivers would be distracted by revealing clothes.

Women's groups were upset by the comments and the Taxi Association called for Ram's resignation.

According to FBC News, Mr Ram has released a statement asking for forgiveness and admitted his personal agenda was to educate passengers on how to dress appropriately.

The Association President Vincent Singh says the outburst was uncalled for and did not represent the views of the organisation.
