Australian foreign minister called inexperienced over PNG gaffe

4:26 pm on 21 March 2012

The Papua New Guinea Foreign Minister, Ano Pala, says threats of sanctions against PNG from his Australian counterpart, Bob Carr, show his inexperience.

Mr Pala was responding to a question in parliament from former attorney general Sir Arnold Amet, who wanted to know how Senator Carr explained last week's threat to organise worldwide sanctions if PNG delayed the 2012 elections.

Mr Pala said Mr Carr's comment came from a place of inexperience.

He assured parliament that PNG's relationship with PNG remained intact.
