The village of Sasina in Samoa is optimistic the deal with the Chinese businessman, Jack Chen, will benefit low income families in the village as well as the whole country.
The MP for Gagaifomauga number three constituency which includes Sasina on Savaii island, La'auli Leuatea Polata'ivao, says the planting of nonu seedlings has started after heavy machines cleared two hundred hectares of land in the village.
The MP who has links with Mr Chen in the export of nonu says a multimillion dollar factory for nonu juice was opened in China last week, and that is a positive sign for nonu farmers in Samoa.
Mr Chen is facing money laundering charges in China but Laauli, who is also the parliamentary speaker, has defended him, saying the allegations have no connection with the nonu deal.
