Disaster authorities in Papua New Guinea say there have been no reports of damage from a 6.7 magnitude earthquake inland of the second biggest city Lae at 6.15am local time.
The quake was centred at a depth of 145 kilometres near Goroka in Eastern Highlands Province.
No tsunami warning was generated.
