The United States government, under its US Pacific Command Humanitarian assistance programme, has offered to fund a District hospital in Samoa.

The hospital will be built on government land opposite the Faleolo international airport.

The assistance is part of America's contribution to Samoa's commemoration of fifty years of independence.

Samoa's government says the new hospital will cater for the villages of Mulifanua, Aiga i le Tai which include Manono and Apolima villages, Falelatai and other villages on the western side of the island.

It also adds it will be important in times of natural disasters and emergencies at the airport.

The cost of the project is unknown.
