Japan has donated one point 3 million US dollars worth of equipment to Samoa to help it protect forests.

Japan's honorary consul to Samoa, Tupua Fred Wetzell, has handed over vehicles, heavy machinery and other tools to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.

Tupua says Japan is happy to assist Samoa with its Forest Preservation Project which seeks to minimise, protect and maintain Samoa's forests through sustainable management.

Japan awarded Samoa millions when the project was launched two years ago.
