With New Zealand now firmly in their sights, Fiji is eying the top spot on the IRB Sevens standings ahead of this weekend's tournament in Japan.

The World Series returns to Tokyo for the first time in over a decade, with Fiji in top form following their triumph over New Zealand in the Hong Kong final.

That cut New Zealand's lead at the top of the series standings to just two points and Fiji captain Setefano Cakau says the team is excited and focused on the prospect of taking top billing.

"Since we just down by two points from New Zealand our preparation is a little bit higher because we want to be up there on the points table, so we're working with that for this week to become at the top after the game this weekend."

Fiji open their tournament against France and will also play hosts Japan and England in pool play.
