Australia to fund Samoa parliament refurbishment

1:37 pm on 2 April 2012

Australia's gift to Samoa's 50th anniversary of independence is a multi-million dollar refurbishment of Samoa's Parliamentary complex.

Australia's Governor General, Quentin Bryce, made the announcement when she addressed Samoa's Parliament as part of her Pacific tour.

Ms Bryce says Australia's funding support gift will underline Australia's respect for the democratic tradition Samoa has established.

The governor general also announced that Australia, in cooperation with the United Nations Development Programme, will provide nearly a million US dollars for training and skills enhancement for MPs and the parliamentary secretariat.
