Papua New Guinea's former Prime Minister Sir Michael Somare has again criticised the Ombudsman Commission calling it complacent and silent in the face of gross allegations of misconduct by MPs.
Sir Michael says the Commission's role is to monitor and regulate the conduct of leaders and to advise Parliament and PNG people of its views and findings.
He says its complacency on the issue over the last nine months is deeply concerning.
Sir Michael has called on the Chief Ombudsman Chronox Manek to step aside if he is compromised in any way.
Mr Manek responded to earlier criticism saying he would not be dictated to and would exercise his powers independently.
He said the commission keeps a watching brief on each situation, and is conducting its own research and analysis of evidence on constitutional and political issues.
