Fiji to probe passport contract

6:44 pm on 11 April 2012

The Fiji Immigration Department is seeking legal advice as to whether the company responsible for delivering the country's new passports is in breach of contract to the government.

The director of Immigration, Major Nemani Vuniwaqa, says Oberthur Technologies has continuously failed to deliver new passports since November last year, when they were first due.

He says the company had promised to deliver 40 thousand passports by March, but has again pushed the delivery date out to May the 14th.

Major Vuniwaqa says the matter is now before the Solicitor General's office, and the department is awaiting it's advice before it will take further steps.
