Chinese police visit to Fiji hailed as new path forward for bilateral ties

Fiji's police chief has hailed a visit by Chinese public security officials as [0] paving a new path for cooperation between the two organisations.

The force has been hosting a delegation from the Department of Public Security of China's southernmost province, Guangdong.

The visit follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on police cooperation between China and Fiji a year ago.

Brigadier-General Ioane Naivalurua says Guangdong is well known for providing specialised training in counter terrorism, search and rescue and anti drug work.

He says as Fiji is the regional hub it plays a leading role in this kind of policing.

The police chief also thanked delegation head Liang Weifa for China's help in developing the Fiji Police Force.
