Almost all properties in Fiji's Western Division now have power restored

The Fiji Electricity Authority says power has been restored to all but half of one percent of properties in the Western Division who lost it during the recent severe flooding.

Flooding in parts of Viti Levu over the past couple of weeks killed at six people, forced thousands into evacuation centres and caused widespread damage to homes, businesses and infrastructure.

The authority's Karunesh Rao says in the Central Division electricity has been fully restored and it had been hoped that by the end of today restoration would also be complete in the Western Division.

The authority estimates the cost of repairs to the electricity infrastructure as just over two million US dollars.
