The counsel assisting the Commission of Inquiry into the MV Rabaul Queen which sank in Papua New Guinea in February says it has collected a considerable amount of evidence.
The Commission of Inquiry into the ferry disaster began in Port Moresby this week and has heard testimonies from a handful of witnesses including the ship's operator and a survivor.
Manuel Varitimos says a considerable amount of evidence has been recorded so far and more than 60 witnesses are still to give evidence at hearings in Port Moresby, Lae, Kokopo, Buka and Kimbe.
"It'll be calling quite a number of survivors who have been subpoenaed and also summonses have already been served and have been made returnable for production of documents from representatives of the National Maritime Safety Authority. Summonses have also been made returnable and documents have been produced from insurance companies relating to the vessel."
Manuel Varitimos says Commission of Inquiry is expected to compile a report on the disaster by June the 30th.
