Tahiti test victims accuse France of official cynicism

The nuclear test veterans in French Polynesia say there is official cynicism on the part of France in the way it deals with the test victims.

Although Paris recognised two years ago, for the first time, that its weapons tests weren't clean, compensation has been paid to only four people claiming ill health because of exposure to the blasts.

The head of Moruroa e Tatou, Roland Oldham, says Paris appears to be happy that its new law allows it to reject just about all claims.

"We talk about compensation for everyone, fairness for everyone, but at the same time, this law is a law to stop all the battle of the victims for compensation."
