Fiji military wary of comments by NGOs

The Fiji Land Force Commander has warned the public not to be swayed by statements by non-governmental organisations after a Fiji Women's Forum last week rejecting a role for the military in drawing up a new constitution.

Col Mosese Tikoitoga says NGOs fight for what their donors want or they would lose their financial assistance.

Col Tikoitoga has told the Fiji Sun the military will continue to support the military-led government in its work in the formulation of the new constitution.

He says NGOs should make constructive criticisms that would help the new way forward already mapped by the government.

The regime abolished the constitution in 2009 after the appeal court ruled that the interim government was illegal.
