1:29 pm on 18 April 2012

Attempts by the Vanuatu opposition to re-instate the former speaker of parliament and Port Vila MP, Maxime Carlot Korman, have failed ."

Parliament defeated a motion to lift the suspension on Mr Carlot Korman by 24 votes to 16.

Mr Carlot Korman was suspended last year after he had been accused of misleading the parliament in a series of delays of a motion to remove him.

He was also accused of misleading the parliament over a motion against the Prime Minister Sato Kilman and the election of Serge Vohor in December 2010 that resulted in court hearings.

Recently, the Vaturisu Council of chiefs on Efate made an appeal to Mr Kilman asking him to lift Mr Carlot Korman's suspension.
