Fiji state of distaster extended

12:51 pm on 23 April 2012

Fiji has extended the state of natural disaster in the West.

It was invoked three weeks ago after the worst floods in living memory caused widespread damage.

The Permanent Secretary for Disaster Management, Colonel Inia Seruiratu, says the emergency will now be in place until the end of the month.

198 people from 48 families continue to be housed at the Evacuation Centre in Sigatoka Hall, awaiting the all-clear so they can return to their homes.
