PNG journalist recovering from alleged police attack

A Papua New Guinea journalist is recovering at home after allegedly being beaten by police officers.

Mark Kayok who is a police reporter for the National Broadcasting Corporation reportedly had his phone smashed, his nose broken, and other injuries in Port Moresby on Saturday evening.

The incident was reported by the NBC yesterday.

It is believed Mr Kayok was traveling with a friend who is a policeman and the pair were followed by a mobile police unit which pulled them over at a service station.

Mr Kayok was allegedly assaulted after intervening when the group of police officers started assaulting his friend.

The attack is being condemned by the NBC as well as the media group, Pacific Freedom Forum and the International Federation of Journalists.
