The towering Queensland lock Rob Simmons is confident Reds team mate Radike Samo will be able to hold onto his trademark "afro."

Queensland rugby is running a charity auction aiming to raise 50,000 dollars for flood ravaged Fiji.

Samo's home village of Narewa was destroyed by the floods and he's offered to shave off his eye catching hair should the fundraising target not be reached by May 10.

Simmons says Samo's hairstyle has become part of the scenery at the Reds base.

"He came to the Reds with it and he's starting to get pretty well known for it with his try scoring abilities. We've auctioned off a jersey and there's been a couple of prizes won. I think its well on the way to reaching 50,000 hopefully."
