PNG fines 150 Filipinos over fishing and visa violations

The 150 Filipino fishermen arrested without valid passports or visas while fishing in Papua New Guinea waters just over a week ago have each been fined 1,440 US dollars.

According to the newspaper, The National, the Kimbe District Court found them guilty of being in the country illegally.

They face six months in jail if they fail to pay their fines.

All of them were ordered to remain on board their vessels, guarded by police and navy officers, until they pay the fines.
