Water management experts have collected crucial information during Fiji's recent devastating floods to help reduce the impact of future intense rainfall.
A regional environmental engineer David Duncan says the data will be used in a computer modelling project, which is being funded by the World Bank.
He says a plane is now waiting for clear weather to take high resolution images of Fiji's topography for the project due to be completed at the end of the year.
"At that point we're in a position where very sound information can be provided to the government. They can start looking at what can we do differently. If we put diversion channels do they work? If we put in retention basins do they work or do we need to look at more dramatic solutions?"
