American Samoa's Acting Governor, Faoa Aitfoele Sunia, has opened the annual Customs Organisation of Oceania conference which is being held in the territory this year.
Faoa told delegates technological and transportation advancement has changed the role of Customs from merely just collecting duties and taxes.
He also stressed that regional collaboration and cooperation is vital because many Pacific countries do not have sufficient infrastructure to serve their communities.
