The Samoa Professional Boxing Association Commissioner says the inaugural Pacific Rim Boxing Championship will give Pacific boxers an opportunity to progress their careers.

The first leg of the Championship was to be held in New Zealand last month but organises have shifted the opening leg to Apia at the end of this month to coincide with the country's 50th Independence celebration.

The championship opener will feature six professional bouts and Samoa's Association Commissioner, Ale Vena Ale, says the championship will provide a solid stepping stone

"We are trying to get our best boxers and rank them .We have connected with the World Boxing Organisation and we have agreed that if boxers fight and if they win ( in their division) they automatically get ranked number 15 in the world and then they work their way up"
