Delegates to the annual conference of the Oceania Customs Organisation in Pago Pago, American Samoa have approved a 10 year strategic plan for the organisation.

The key functions of customs the plan addresses are trade facilitation, border security, revenue collection, communications and human resource development.

Silafau Paul Meredith of the OCO secretariat says among key recommendations of the plan are improved commodity classification, updating customs legislation and adopting court procedures and penalties.

He says the plan gives a broad long term direction for the organisation based on expectations of members.
