Sport: Vanuatu fancy themselves as 'giant killers'

Vanuatu coach Andrew Mansale is backing his team to cause some upsets at the East Asia Pacific Women's Cricket Championship, which begins in Port Vila today.

Six teams are taking part in the Twenty20 competition, including Fiji, Japan, Cook Islands, Samoa and Papua New Guinea.

For the host nation this marks their first ICC tournament since a women's cricket program was introduced in 2010.

Andrew Mansale says the squad is making big strides and he's confident they will cause the established countries some real problems.

"For myself personally as a coach, from me to them, I would like to see them playing a competitive game in each game they play and we'll look to one, two and three wins would be good."

The winner will advance to the next stage of qualifying for the 2014 Women's World Twenty20 event in Bangladesh.
