Morobe MP calls for PNG parliamentarians to do their job

1:03 pm on 16 May 2012

The Papua New Guinea MP for Morobe is calling on parliamentarians to focus on their electorates in the lead-up to the June general election.

After months of political ructions, MPs agreed in yesterday's special sitting of parliament to proceed with the poll as scheduled.

Our correspondent in Port Moresby says they used the final sitting under Peter O'Neill's government to make the usual speeches and tributes.

Titi Gabi says Morobe's Bart Philemon urged politicians to forget about money.

"They move when there's money and when money makes them move and so we need to shift from that to just doing what we're supposed to which is get the electorates and develop the electorates."

Titi Gabi says it appeared in yesterday's sitting that the rival factions had simply run out of steam.
