Tri Marine International is seeking loan guarantees of up to 30 million US dollars from the United States Department of Agriculture's Rural Development programme to finance reconstruction of the former Samoa Packing plant in American Samoa.

Company vice president Dan Sullivan says the project is a major undertaking and Samoa Tuna Processors is seeking loan guarantees.

This includes a 5,000 tonne cold store facility, a fresh fish processing facility and a tuna cannery.

Mr Sullivan says the application has been submitted and they do not know when a decision will be made but Samoa Tuna Processors has already started construction.
