A former Polynesia Airlines employee in American Samoa has been charged with the theft of more than 10,000 US dollars belonging to the Samoa government-owned carrier.
According to court documents, Judy Matautia was the acting area manager for Polynesian Airlines' office in Pago Pago between March and October of 2010, when the alleged crime occurred.
The government alleges that she used the money for herself after altering bank deposit slips.
She is also charged with one count of passing bad cheques by writing them from her personal bank account, which was already closed.
Both charges are felonies, and each count is punishable by up to seven years in prison.
