Manu Samoa first five Tusi Pisi is backing the next generation of Samoan players to step up in next month's Pacific Nations Cup.

The former Toulon playmaker was only selected for the one-off test against Scotland in Apia due to his Super Rugby commitments with the Hurricanes.

Other senior internationals Ti'i Paulo, Kahn Fotuali'i, George Pisi will also have limited involvement, while world cup veterans such as Mahonri Schwalger and Eliota Fuimaono-Sapolu were overlooked completely.

Tusi Pisi however is backing the new faces to deliver.

"But I mean that's exciting for the new talent. Hopefully there's a few of us there to bring up the new talent and to help them out. There's a lot of young players out there that are outstanding and it's just time for them to get experience at that level. They're facing Fiji and Tonga and Japan - it's not easy - but we're looking forward to that Scotland game and I'm sure the other boys are as well."

Meanwhile Pisi gets his first start of the season for the Hurricanes on Friday in their clash against Australian Conference leaders the Brumbies.
