Solomons' government calls for frank talks on future of RAMSI

4:00 pm on 18 May 2012

The Solomon Islands Government is encouraging frank and fruitful discussions among the participants in the 8th Enhanced Consultative Mechanism meeting today on the Regional Assistance Mission to Solomon Islands, or RAMSI.

Opening the meeting the Foreign Minister, Clay Forau Soaloai, says RAMSI has achieved significant results in areas such as law and order, with the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force taking on more of the frontline duties.

On the mission's transition, Mr Forau reiterated his government's position that the transition of RAMSI must be task-bound and not time-bound.

And he says the pace of transition across various sectors must be done in close consultation with the Solomons government.
