The American Samoa National Olympic Committee is keen to begin design plans for training and sports facilities at Tafuna after signing a lease for more than three acres of land.

The lease of the government land is located behind the Tony Solaita baseball field.

ASNOC president Ken Tupua says once completed the new facilities will help prepare athletes for international and regional competitions and be a magnet for sports tourism.

"What we need is to bring in big-time competition - for instance there's Oceanias. It's either every year or every other year that these sports have these Oceania competition - 24 team wrestling will host their Oceania here which means that 18 teams will come and bring their wrestlers here which means money for the territory."
