French Polyensia call to elect serious candidates

5:29 pm on 23 May 2012

The campaign team of a former French Polynesian president, Gaston Tong Sang, has urged voters in next week's first round of the French National Assembly election to choose serious candidates.

It has issued a statement after a media survey showed that most of those responding found that 45 candidates were too many contesting the three seats in Paris.

It says people won't be carried away by candidates from civil society nor by those pushing a territorial issue which is out of tune with the challenges of a national election.

Mr Tong Sang is standing against 14 other candidates who are mostly politicians.
