PNG parliament again lacks quorum for sitting

3:12 pm on 24 May 2012

Papua New Guinea's parliament has been adjourned until tomorrow.

The attempt at a special sitting by Peter O'Neill's caretaker government has again failed due to a lack of numbers.

Local reports say only one of the 109 MPs attended today.

Many MPs are back in their electorates campaigning for next month's election.

Parliament was dissolved last week ahead of the beginning of the official election process.

However Peter O'Neill called a special sitting in response to Monday's Supreme Court ruling that his government was illegal.
