The bodies of a Dutch couple who were murdered in their home in Port Vila are to be buried in Vanuatu.

The superintendent of Vila Central Hospital, where the bodies are being held, Dr Willie Tokon has told the Daily Post newspaper that the couple's son has arrived from Europe to authorise his parents' burial in Port Vila.

Dr Tokon says the couple arrived in Vanuatu three years ago and agreed to make their home in Port Vila because they loved the country so much.

They were found dead in their home over a week ago at a time when seven high-risk prisoners were on the run.

Police have since recaptured one and the government has given the remaining six until tomorrow to surrender or they would be hunted down by armed police.
