More than 300 weightlifters are expected in Samoa for the combined Commonwealth and Oceania championships, set to start next Monday.

The Samoa Weightlifting Federation president, Tuaopepe Jerry Wallwork, says the combined event will be the biggest Oceania and the biggest Commonwealth meet ever.

He says there will be twice the number of competitors as at the Commonwealth Games in Delhi in 2010.

India alone is sending 65 competitors.

He says Samoa has been able to attract such a high level of international competition and personnel because of the country's good reputation as a host.
