12:14 pm on 29 May 2012

Australia is providing the Secretariat of the Pacific Community with about four and a half million US dollars for fisheries and education development in the Pacific.

Part of the funding is under Australia's International Climate Change Adaptation Initiative.

It will be used to help Fiji, Tokelau and Tonga implement coastal fisheries, marine and freshwater resource, and integrated water and coastal resource management adaptation measures.

The educational funding will be aimed at the SPC's efforts to improve literacy and numeracy at Year 6 level in Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands and Samoa.
