Fiji media report that Australia has offered Fiji more than two million US dollars to pay towards the cost of the election promised for 2014.
The Australian foreign minister, Bob Carr, says the assistance will support Fiji's Elections Office, the recently established Constitutional Commission and civic awareness programmes.
Mr Carr says this is to help Fiji deliver on its commitment to hold free and fair elections and transition to democracy in 2014.
He says Australia will work with the Fiji Elections Office, local and international partners and the United Nations in delivering this package.
Voter registration will begin next month.
