The only fautasi captained by a woman has won the finals of the long boat race for Samoa's 50th Independence celebrations on Tuesday in Apia Harbor.
Segavao, captained by Vaimasenuu Zita Martel and crewed by students of Don Bosco Technical College, crossed the finish line about four fautasi lengths ahead of the second place Telefoni o le Vainu'u.
The winner earns a grand prize of 50,000 Samoan tala.
