UNICEF collects bikes in NZ for Kiribati

UNICEF in New Zealand is collecting bicycles to be sent to Kiribati.

The organisation is collecting bikes in both Auckland and Wellington which can be refurbished.

Unicef's Hamish Lindsay says the local office suggested that bikes would be helpful in its community work.

"They think that bikes would really help out the local community members. Just to access public services and schools for example. A lot of the roads are coral, I believe and the pathways, and they're quite rough, so it is hard to get around, so we are looking for good quality sturdy bikes."

Hamish Lindsay says the bikes will hopefully be on a ship leaving Auckland in August.
