Code share deal set to benefit AA travellers to Tahiti

American Airlines say frequent fliers will be able to use their airpoints to visit Tahiti once a new deal with Air Tahiti Nui is approved.

A spokesman for American Airlines says approval for the codeshare agreement between Los Angeles and Papeete from the US Department of Transportation is likely within 45 days.

The deal will also allow Air Tahiti Nui to place its code on American flights from Los Angeles to 15 US cities, including New York, San Francisco, Las Vegas, Chicago, Boston, Dallas, Miami and Washington.

Jim Faulkner says the deal will make booking and ticketing travel between the United States and French Polynesia easier and passengers will be able to use airpoints.

"Say from New York now someone could book an American Airlines ticket all the way through, with American Airlines flight numbers, from say New York to Los Angeles and on to Tahiti. It also allows American and Air Tahiti Nui customers to earn and burn frequent flyer miles."

Jim Faulkner says once the agreement is approved, a marketing programme will be launched.
