The leader of the Men Improving Sexual Health in Malaita programme in Solomon Islands says more men are taking responsibility for contraception and using condoms.

Eric Sogote'e provides clinical services to men and boys in Auki and the surrounding areas and also holds one-day workshops for men on sexually transmitted infections, family planning and family violence, among other issues.

He says one of his main aims is to educate men about their responsibilities in the family, especially in terms of health and caring for family members.

Mr Sogote'e says in Malaita especially talking about sexuality issues is taboo but the programme is helping men to change their behaviour.

"And even the example of condom use. Many men who have gone through my training workshop sessions are now starting to use condoms and most of all have started to respect their wife, even their wife's rights, women's rights."
